Juba – The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has welcomed Ms. Vijaya Souri as the new Chief of Mission for its operations in the Republic of South Sudan. With a wealth of experience in migration issues and IOM programs, Ms. Souri is poised to lead the organization’s efforts in the region towards promoting peace, development, and self-reliance.

In a meeting today with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Ramadan Mohammed Abdallah Goc, Ms. Souri presented her credentials and expressed her commitment to supporting the people of South Sudan. She stated, “IOM will be a full partner to the Government of South Sudan in promoting peace and development, as well as collaborating with humanitarian partners to create economic opportunities and improve self-reliance for the South Sudanese people.”

Having served in various capacities within IOM since 2004, including as Chief of Mission in Burundi and in acting roles in Mauritania and Côte d’Ivoire, Ms. Souri brings a strong track record of leadership and dedication to her new role in South Sudan. Her appointment signifies a continuation of IOM’s commitment to addressing migration challenges and supporting sustainable solutions in the region.

As Ms. Souri takes on her responsibilities as Chief of Mission, her vision for collaboration and empowerment is expected to drive impactful initiatives that benefit the communities and individuals in South Sudan.
